JD White, 1966-2003
James Adam
Dallas, Texas mourns JD White, an innovative sculptor, painter and collage
artist who promoted area artists through his storefront gallery. White built
and designed film sets for major Hollywood studios; he also created the entrance
archway and dinosaur footprints currently showing at the Grace Cultural Museum
in Abilene.
His work showed a rare imaginative freedom, exemplified
in his sculpture of a seven-foot dinosaur wearing new sneakers. Shown here
is a collage about the Apollo missions and the possibility of a more permanent
human presence on the Moon. JD White was 37.
