Gap Founder Building an Art Museum

    Gap
founder Donald Fisher announced yesterday that his proposal to build a
contemporary art museum in San Francisco’s Presidio national park has
moved a step forward, Bloomberg reports. The board of the Presidio
Trust, which operates the park, has agreed to enter negotiations over
lease terms and other issues on the project. Last week, it decided to
start exclusive negotiations with Fisher, who first proposed the museum
in August. Fisher also said yesterday that he would contribute $10
million to renovate the Presidio’s main parade ground near the proposed
museum, which is now mostly a paved parking lot. The project faces
months or years of approvals before construction can begin. (Artinfo, January 31, 2008)

Ateneum, Finland’s largest art museum, Agence France-Presse reports.
The 550 works by about 40 artists had been displayed in the collector’s
