Beate Landen
Beate Landen was born in Ludwigshafen Germany. After studying painting
at UCLA she joined Bad Reichenhall Art Academy working with Prof Markus
Lüpertz and Prof. Herman Nitsch, while working as a studio assistant forProfessor Arnulf Rainer. For her work she collects old, rotten, rusty items that have been thrown away or left behind.By combing rusty metal, washed out trunks of wood, scratched stones, old paper, soil and sand with acrylic colors, lacquer and pigments Landen creates brilliantly simple—yet strong collages. She believes something that is “commonly looked at as worn out and not worth thinking about does have its own beauty and aesthetic—it just depends on your point of view! If it works this way with artifacts shouldn’t it work with human beings also?”
