• 5 Exhibits To See In NYC This September

    Pieces, an exhibit featuring the work of Patricia Treib, opens Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, 724 Fifth Ave. Treib’s collection features abstract paintings that interpret the graphic world.

    Also opening Thursday, Sept. 6, is Michael Rakowitz’s The Breakup, a manifold multimedia event at Lombard Freid Gallery, 518 West 19 St. The exhibit features video, drawings, memorabilia, and a limited-edition gatefold vinyl LP, while showcasing the 1969 disbanding of The Beatles as an example of a withering collaboration.

    5 Exhibits To See In NYC This September

     

    September kicks off the season in NYC, each gallery bringing its own unique and thought provoking pairing to the table. Aggro Crag, a group exhibition gaining its name from the Nickelodeon gameshow “Guts,” starts the month off on view Sept. 1 at BOSI Contemporary, 48 Orchard St. Featuring ten painters including Trudy Benson, Polly Shindler, Ian Swanson, Joyce Pensato, Katherine Bradford, Devin Troy Strother, Jason Stopa, Amy Feldman, Russel Tyler, and Austin Eddy, Aggro Crag offers the combined re-envisioning of a period burdened with complications. Joyce Pensato’s featured work plays on Batman, Daffy Duck, and The Simpson’s to shed light on the darkness hiding behind pop iconography.  Opening Reception will be Wednesday, Sept 5.

    Also opening Wednesday, Sept. 5, is Line Space Color Gesture, a four-artist exhibition featuring Jordi Alcaraz, Greg Allen-Müller, Aleksandar Duravcevic, and Jason Gringler, curated by Galerie Stefan Röpke. The exhibit, featured at SITE/109, 109 Norfolk St., brings attention to modern-day functions, while expanding on the traditions of painting and drawing, and consequently, offering new definitions of both.

    Chelsea openings begin on Thursday.  Be sure to check out Pieces.  Patricia Triebb’s exhibit of paintings interpret the graphic world.  Her work will be on view at Tibor de Nagy Gallery, 724 Fifth Ave.

    Opening Saturday, Sept. 8, is Wraithworld, a collection of Michael Haffka’s paintings on view at Vaudeville Park, 26 Bushwick Ave., Brooklyn. Haffka’s featured work consists of human figures against stark backgrounds; the subjects portrayed all struggling internally. Through Haffka’s spontaneous marks on canvas, the paintings become exhibitions of his subject’s disposition.
