| When a small group of German gallery owners organized the first Cologne art fair in 1967, they aimed to establish a new art centre — at least temporarily. Their long-term goal was to promote the creation of art in Germany — in other words, young German artists — and to position them in the international art world so as to attract a new group of collectors. As we now know, they achieved all of these goals to an extent they could hardly have imagined back then. When the 45th ART COLOGNE is held from 13th to 17th April 2011, approximately 190 galleries from 24 countries will be using the international art market in Cologne to present a wealth of modern and contemporary art. |  |

As we now know, they achieved all of these goals to an extent they could hardly have imagined back then. When the 45th ART COLOGNE is held from 13th to 17th April 2011, approximately 190 galleries from 24 countries will be using the international art market in Cologne to present a wealth of modern and contemporary art. On hand will be numerous galleries that have exhibited in previous years, as well as major new exhibitors from Germany and abroad, such as Andrew Kreps (New York), TEAM Gallery (New York) and Tomio Koyama (Tokyo). The returning galleries will include Galerie Lelong (Paris/Zurich), Buchmann (Berlin/Lugano), Guido W. Baudach (Berlin), Kewenig (Cologne/Palma de Mallorca), Bernd Klüser (Munich), Produzentengalerie (Hamburg), DEWEER Art Gallery (Otegem), Catherine Bastide (Brussels), Leo Koenig (New York), Fons Welters (Amsterdam) and Hauser & Wirth (London/New York/Zurich). Together with Christian Nagel (Cologne/Berlin/Antwerp) and Sprüth Magers (Berlin/London), they will be exhibiting in the main area of ART COLOGNE and also participating in OPEN SPACE.
