With five nominations for Polish filmmakers, an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, and a Silver Bear at Berlinale, 2015 is off to being a very special year for Polish cinema!
For the past eleven years, the New York Polish Film Festival’s programs have reflected diverse styles and subjects of Poland’s feature, short, animated and documentary films. Polish Film Festival returns in May 2015 with an exciting array of features and shorts.
In light of the recent death of Krzysztof Krauze, the festival pays homage to this master director with retrospective screenings of his work, including Papusza, a poetic picture about the Roma poet, with beautiful black & white cinematography.
The Festival includes new fiction features like Gods (Bogowie) by Lukasz Palkowski, winner of the Best Film Award at the 2014 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and Polish Egle 2015.
Among the acclaimed documentaries is Actress (Aktorka), about the late Elzbieta Czyzewska, and-in partnership with the JCC-The Muses of Isaac Bashevis Singer and The Return.
