Brooklyn, NY (4/22/16)  – Family Dynamics announced today its 6th Annual Benefit Art Auction & Reception, slated to take place on Tuesday, April 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 91 Horatio in Manhattan’s buzzy Meatpacking District. This year’s Honorary Artist Chair, Vadis Turner, has her work in the permanent collections of notable American museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art21C MuseumTennessee State Museum, and Kentucky Arts and Crafts Museum. An Adjunct Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute, a Christie’s artist panel member, and a former Visiting Artist at Vanderbilt University, Turner explores the transformative possibilities of feminist materials to create pieces that are equal parts art and heirloom.

This year, 30 artists have donated works for silent and live auctions to help raise awareness and funds for Family Dynamics’ after school art programs, including: Leslie Alexander, Michael Anderson, John Baber, Alex Beard, Noah Becker, Emily Berger, Peter Bogardus, Clayton Calvert, Parker Calvert, Davide Cantoni, Pietro Costa, FAILE, Carson Fox, Hillary Harrison, Alison Jackson, Ryan Keeley, Anthony Kieran, Nancy Manter, Andrew Mezvinsky, Jim Osman, Erik Parker, Brian Pearson, Arlayne Peterson, Jim Plunkett, Dan Rizzie, Alexandra Rowley, Anne Russinof and Robert Szot. Sotheby’s-trained Angelo Chan will serve as auctioneer for the evening, and 501 Auctions is partnering with the organization to enable mobile bidding for those unable to attend the event.

Children from Family Dynamics’ art program from PS/IS 41 in Brownsville, Brooklyn, have contributed their own work, Wonder Wheel, a Brooklyn-themed mosaic made with an eclectic variety of re-used materials that reflects the diversity of New York City, as well as the students’ appreciation for environmental sustainability.

Family Dynamics Director Carrie Stewart says: “Our after school art programs offer young people rich exposure to creativity – a critical doorway to self-expression. They give children, who might not have the opportunity otherwise, a chance to express themselves creatively while learning new skills.”

Located in Central Brooklyn, Family Dynamics provides neighborhood-based programs that strengthen families, give young people the tools to succeed in school and beyond, and enrich family and community life. Family Dynamics is a program of SCO Family of Services which provides human services for 55,000 children, youth, families and adults each year in New York City and on Long Island.
