    Crystal Ruth Bell ResidencyTo honor the spirit and and life of our friend Crystal, Red Gate, together with China Residencies, is thrilled to announce the inauguration of the Crystal Ruth Bell Residency.  The artist selected will be awarded a fully-funded three month residency from December until February. The first Crystal Ruth Bell Residency will be run from December 2014-February 2015, and continue on annually.
    We will be taking applications from September 30 to October 25, 2014.
    RESIDENCY HAPPENINGS
    We were very busy this summer–with monthly open studios, openings at Red Gate and the Opposite House, visits to the Great Wall and artist communities, regular artist talks, guided tours to museums, group dinners and more.

    This month, as part of the 2nd FASIC Australian Studies Conference “The Big Picture–Lives, Landscapes, Homelands and Chinese Art,” hosted by the Australian Studies Center of Renmin University and organized by Creative Asia, a panel session called “At Home in the World–Artist Residencies and Transnational Practices” was held at Red Gate Gallery.
    The panel was moderated by Geoff Raby, and panelists included Brian Wallace, Art Director of Asialink Lesley Alway, Australian artist Laurens Tan, and Chinese painter Zhang Zhaohui. Brian Wallace spoke about Red Gate Residency, it’s history and future.
